Dubai Map Poster: desert grid meets coastal ambition

Why Dubai works so well as a map poster

Dubai's map looks like nothing else on the planet. The coastline runs diagonally with the Palm Jumeirah jutting out like a giant fractal medallion, the Creek snakes inland splitting Deira from Bur Dubai, and the grid, impossibly straight and wide, pushes into the desert with the confidence of a place that builds its own geography.

What makes a Dubai poster remarkable is the contrast: water on one side, empty desert on the other, and a narrow corridor of hyper-dense city compressed between them, with Sheikh Zayed Road running like a spine.

Best palettes for Dubai

  • Sunset — warm golds and desert tones; the coastline glows where sand meets the Gulf.
  • Noir — the dense grid against the empty desert is amplified in black. Sleek and modern, like the city itself.
  • Neon Cyberpunk — the closest thing to a cyberpunk city that actually exists; this palette matches its energy.

Where to centre the map and which radius to use

Use an 8 km radius centred on the Creek to capture both the Palm Jumeirah and the old city in one poster; the diagonal coastline draws a striking line across the print.

Which size to print

City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
