Taipei Map Poster: a luminous grid inside a ring of mountains
Why Taipei works so well as a map poster
Taipei fills a river basin ringed by mountains, and the map reads exactly like that: a dense, orderly grid of broad boulevards — Zhongxiao, Renai, Xinyi — pressed flat against the Tamsui River on the west, while the Keelung River wriggles across the north of the frame in extravagant meanders.
Inside the grid, the landmarks are voids: the great plaza of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, the green lung of Daan Forest Park, the runway of Songshan Airport sitting improbably in the middle of the city. Around the edges the streets climb into the foothills and simply stop, which is where you feel the mountains without seeing them.
Best palettes for Taipei
- Midnight Blue — the signature pick: Taipei is a night city, and this navy with glowing streets is its portrait.
- Japanese Ink — brush-stroke minimalism that suits the calligraphy on every shopfront.
- Blueprint — precise technical lines for one of Asia's best-engineered street plans.
Where to centre the map and which radius to use
Centre on the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall with a 5 km radius: the Tamsui edges the frame on the west, the Keelung meanders across the top, and Daan Park and the Songshan runway punctuate the grid in between.

Which size to print
City maps with lots of fine streets reward size: 30×40 cm is the sweet spot for a desk or hallway, 50×70 cm and 60×90 cm turn the map into a statement piece where individual streets remain legible from across the room. Stick to matte paper so the dark palettes do not reflect. Read the printing and framing guide.
